2025

Luke Magnall

In 2025, the BCWWA selected Luke Magnall as the YP Summit Award recipient to attend the WEF/AWWA Young Professionals (YP) Summit in Dallas, Texas.

Luke Magnall is an operator in training, working on various water systems throughout the west Kootenay region of British Columbia since moving there three years ago. This year, he started to work in the field of water and wastewater treatment to provide services to multiple systems in the area, particularly local communities served by independent small water systems.

2024

Ali Malekian

In 2024, the BCWWA selected Ali Malekian as the inaugural YP Summit Award recipient to attend the WEF/AWWA Young Professionals (YP) Summit in Portland, Oregon.

Ali Malekian is a professional engineer with a PhD in Engineering & Sustainable Energies and nine years of experience in different sectors. He has worked on many projects related to water resources, flood protections, water infrastructures, hydropower, water conveyance systems, and port and marine infrastructure throughout Canada and a few in the US. As a Project Engineer/Manager at CIMA+ & MidSea Engineering, one of his most outstanding projects has been managing Mill Creek Flood Protection Project, one of the largest and most complicated capital projects in the City of Kelowna valued over $15M, for the past 3.5 years. He also has experience designing several hydropower projects across BC in response to the increasing electricity demand in a green and sustainable way.
