BCWWA’s Hosts Inaugural MLA Day

October 31, 2025

This week, the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA) was proud to host our first-ever MLA Day in Victoria, bringing together members of the BC Legislative Assembly to spotlight our association and the dedicated professionals advancing BC’s water sector.

We were honoured to welcome the Honourable Randene Neill, Minister of Water, Land & Resource Stewardship, who joined us for lunch and shared thoughtful remarks. Her emphasis on collaboration among our organization and her office deeply resonated with us in our work to be a voice for the sector and support elected officials in understanding and responding to the sector. Thank you to MLA Tony Luck, Critic for Municipal Affairs, for his remarks on behalf of the Opposition.

BCWWA CEO Lee Coonfer, along with Board members Michelle Revesz, Negin Tousi, David Houghton, and Darcy Dion, engaged with provincial representatives to discuss the work we do and the communities we serve. We were pleased to host a diverse group of MLAs and Ministers, including:

Honourable Tamara Davidson, Minister of Environment and Parks; Honourable Brittny Anderson, Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities; Honourable Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food; and Honourable Terry Yung, Minister of State for Community Safety and Integrated Services.

MLAs Garry Begg, Linda Hepner, Susie Chant, Ward Starmer, Lynne Block, Bryan Tepper, David Williams, Kristina Loewen, Reann Gasper, Larry Neufeld, Bruce Banman, Scott McInnis, Lawrence Mok, Sunita Dhir, Macklin McCall, Sheldon Clare and Tony Luck.

The day concluded with our attendance at Question Period, followed by an opportunity for Board members to meet with Minister Neill in her office.

This inaugural MLA Day was an inspiring opportunity to share the breadth and vitality of BC’s water workforce with elected officials. Water transcends politics and these conversations reinforce our advocacy priority of raising awareness about what matters most to our members – and to the future of water in BC.
